Re: NBA 2013-2014 Thread
The NBA is really working on selling their product in the preseason.
Cleveland's 1st game is against their new coach's old team, Tel Aviv. Their 2nd game is against the Heat, in Brazil.

I'm specifically looking at the poll at the bottom which asks which "Big 3" will be better, James-Love-Irving or James-Wade-Bosh?
Every single state voted James-Love-Irving (majority).
That seems pretty optimistic to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it. While the trip to Miami wasn't an absolute dynasty, it was certainly a successful run.

I'd take the Wade/Bosh combo definitely, but probably only for 2 ish more seasons I'm guessing.

Yes, they are better, for obvious reasons you may not be thinking of.nick wrote:#2/#18 and #41 in PER are better than #2/#3 and #27?shel311 wrote:I'd take the Wade/Bosh combo definitely, but probably only for 2 ish more seasons I'm guessing.

vast majority of fans have such a hard time understanding usage rates when it comes to basketball.
the yr before they all came to Miami, Lebron was #1 in PER, Wade was #2 and Bosh was #4.
it's impossible to remain at those levels when your usage gets cut so dramatically.
Bosh is on par with Love (i'd probably take Bosh) and Wade is still better than Kyrie. So i'd probably take Miami's guys. that doesn't mean the 3 in Cleveland won't mesh better than the 3 in Miami did.

Re: NBA 2013-2014 Thread
and with all that said someone will equate me to saying that Cleveland won't be as good as Miami or whatever.
it has nothing to do with that.
there are certain players who excel at certain usage rates. some players who are incredible as high usage rate players can be less valuable when they become the #2 or #3 player on a roster and vice versa. some players can excel when they are 2nd or 3rd options but can't handle being the #1. one example of this is Melo. i've always claimed (and alot of stat dorks do) that Melo would be an elite level #2 option on a team. he's been much better the past 2 years in terms of efficiency but not nearly enough to carry a team deep into the playoffs. he's just not consistently efficient enough. but if was a #2 option with an efficient high usage #1, he'd be able to excel while not dominating the possessions as much.
Love may excel in that role, he might just go 16 and 16 and shot 40% from 3 and be the ideal #3 guy. or he could be lost playing without the ball and Varejo might eat up his rebound rate and he might get alot of the same Bosh criticisms. Kyrie might completely disappear and become a completely different player without the ball in his hands every possession or he might up his efficiency considerably and become an even better with Lebron on the court.
Those types of things are so hard to predict, specifically because you don't know what sort of offense the team is going to run and what their focus will be. For example, main stream media always bashed Bosh for playing outside and being 'soft' but that was the best way to maximize his value with out the ball as it spread the floor and he was an excellent jump shooting 4 but it killed his rebounding #'s and caused him to get a ton of heat for being 'soft'.
i am rooting for the Cavs to be awesome.

While I agree with taking Wade over Irving, give me Love over Bosh.

It's close splitting hairs with no definitive answer , but I'd take Bosh due to his defense.The_Niddler wrote:While I agree with taking Wade over Irving, give me Love over Bosh.

I think Bosh is going to put up some excellent numbers this season. He was very overshadowed the last few years.
I'd take Love over Bosh, no question. 25yrs old and has a ton of great seasons left in him. He's also got the kind of game that he can hang around as a top tier player for a very long time.

Oh I'd definitely take Love long term, no brainer. And Bosh's games will also age well I'd think.ReignOnU wrote:I think Bosh is going to put up some excellent numbers this season. He was very overshadowed the last few years.

I'm curious to see if he starts playing hurt a little more now that they don't suck and that he has Lebron around him. Not that he wasn't truly injured, but he's had a lot of knocks the last few years that I think even if Lebron wasn't around but they were in contention he may have tried to go through. Just a curiosity.DRiccio21 wrote:i'd take Kyrie over Wade long term as well... but thats not what we were talking about.
