I don't really know how to word this but doesn't this shine a bright light on how our fickle our economy is and the need for more regulation on how profits are spent? Hasn't nearly every single sector had record profits year after year for like the last ten years but yet after just a few weeks of this everyone is talking about how most corporations will collapse without a bailout from the government?

Death rate is evolving. I had a post a few days ago that gives you the numerous factors that will cause it to fluctuate over time.
A few quick ones:
- We're lower because our impact isn't as condensed (NY growing into an exception to that)
- Lower because we're later in the cycle of getting it, so less experimentation on recovery/treatment. Others had to struggle through it.
- Lower because we're still very early in the process. A full wave has potentially peaked in China/Italy. We're still developing. People don't die immediately, it occurs over a few days.
(This also applies when looking at deaths vs recoveries - deaths occur earlier in the cycle than recoveries, so they show up earlier. Deaths also are far more likely to be reported and confirmed than recoveries, causing a delay.)

From what I can gather is the holdup is the Democrats don't want a $500 billion slush fund for corporations that the Republicans currently have in their bill and would rather spend more money on unemployment insurance.

Both sides are trying to add non-COVID related items to the bill, and the entire thing is being stalled over nothing having to do with COVID or the stimulus due to COVID.

It's completely disgusting, but 100% expected because citizens refuse to do anything about it, we just keep allowing them to do stuff like this.

Slush fund?

One key holdup appears to still be roughly $500 billion in funds for loans and loan guarantees for distressed companies, states and localities without enough guidelines or oversight to satisfy Democrats, who seek to prevent bailout for large companies without ensuring that most of the benefits will go to the workers.

They need to have two bills if they want to help Americans that need to buy food.

The problem here is the bailout is going to benefit the businesses and the executives more then the people that actually need it at this point for the long term.

Just like the '08 bailout.

So each side is using it as a we can do whatever we want during this time to exploit a bill!!

I was just about to come in and say this. Nancy Pelosi added in abortion crap last week. I'm sure the Republicans are adding something stupid as well. If Americans don't see this and start voting out these people then this will continue till our dying breath.

I vote against the incumbent 90% of the time in the primaries if they have 2 terms under their belt.

Nothing specificly related to abortion was ever added by pelosi. Just isn't true from the articles I've seen. In a effort to provide funding for labs to be paid for testing somehow Republicans twisted into something about abortions.

Slush fund meaning little oversight on who the funds went to and how the funds would be spent by the corporations.
