The gold medal is actually worth about $548, USA Today reports. Why is its value so low? Because the award only contains about 1% of pure gold. The gold medal weighs approximately 531 grams, of which 6 grams are gold. The other 525 grams are silver.

Ah, I guess I caught a double entendre that wasn't there.

You know, rocks
Now that we've got that out of the way.

• After winning a nail-biter against Russia, Phil Kessel and the U.S. men’s hockey team eased into the Olympic quarterfinals with a 5-1 win over Slovenia. “Curse you, America!” cried Slovenian Prime Minister Alenka Bratusek after the game. “First, Landon Donovan in the World Cup, then Tina Maze in the downhill combined. Now this? Ready the nukes!” When told that her army had no nuclear weapons, Bratusek replied, “Fine! Then ready our top naval forces!” When told that her top naval forces was a patrol boat named the Triglav, Bratusek cackled maniacally and said, “Perfect. Now send a telegraph to their prime minister and set sail for America! There will be cannons at dawn in like three months!”

Wow...did the guy make it? Looks pretty bad. That guy that died a few years ago looked like a pretty benign accident compared to this one

That was the women's bobsled and they walked away from the crash with no injuries. That was a practice run and their sled was damaged.

True.

It is because there is really only one "real" sport ... hockey. And most American hockey fans couldn't care less about international hockey. In fact, I've found that one of the main reasons American sports fans don't like international sports is because of two reasons (both of which I agree with):

1. There aren't any playoffs.
2. In most cases, winning the league title isn't the greatest thing the team can achieve.

And while I understand the argument from fans of international sports (and I love the EPL as much as any American), I totally disagree.

Canada got fucked in figure skating apparently. Probably not as sad as the Russian fans protesting outside the US Embassy cause of a disallowed goal in the RUS-US game

Canada's having some trouble with Latvia in the quarterfinals. They're tied 1-1 going into the third. Meanwhile, the US is up 4-1 on the Czechs going into the third.

I was watching the Canadian broadcast and they said that Latvia did the Canadians a favor by beating the Swiss. Then in the same sentence they questioned the lines that Canada was going to send out. I remember thinking, be careful what you wish for and how underestimating a team in the Olympics can be the end of you.

You see the SOG? 57-19! How did they not score more goals? Was the goalie good or just not good shots?

Short track speed skating and whatever that sport is that Bode Miller competes in where they go down the hill at 60mph making unbelievable turns, those are about the only 2 I like, and once those are on, I'm glued to the TV.
