Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
Pettis is so good. He's reaching that level of "must see" that Anderson Silva and Jon Jones have been for me. While I can't wait to see him fit Khabib, it's going to suck that one of them has to lose. Pretty good chance that these 2 go back and forth for more than 1 fight over the next few years.
I thought Eddie Gordon was going to turn into a monster in the UFC, after watching him on TUF. But Josh Samman looked excellent. I remember him from TUF as well... he was highly touted by ended up losing to Gastelum. Samman has definitely been through a lot with his injuries and stuff, so it's great to see him get that highlight reel KO.
As for Hendricks / Lawler... I don't have a huge issue with the outcome. I thought it was 48-47 Hendricks, but I can understand judges getting irritated with Hendricks style. The Greg Jackson guys used to get hammer for stuff like this (some still do). Heck, Jon Fitch was so bad about it that I'd use his bout as a good time to get up and get food or use the restroom, because he'd just be "Fitching" the whole match.
As for CM Punk (Phil Brooks, for those that care), Dana all but said it's about the money. He's going to toss him a can and see what he can do. I know a lot of people are going to be hard on him, because he's never had an actually MMA fight, but he does have a lot going for him. Obviously he's a great athlete, he's not going to be overwhelmed by the external (media, crowd, etc) stuff and he does have some legitimate training, even though it doesn't seem like it's been consistent. Gracie thinks that if he applies himself, he could be pretty solid. However, BJJ isn't enough to get by in the UFC and I have no clue how good his wrestling and striking are. In the end, people are going to buy the fight. I see a favorable first fight for him, then something that is a test. By that time, he should have a year or so of dedicated training, which by all accounts, he's extremely dedicated and obsessive when it comes to working out. I don't think it's out of line to be optimistic that he might be worthy of being on the UFC roster a year from now, from a talent perspective... not just for the money.

How much training can you get in when you are on the road literally all the time? I'm sure he doesn't have a Gracie following him (punk) around all the time.
I had Lawler winning 1, 4, and 5. When you are laying on someone against the cage and getting punched about the head and neck, I don't consider that dominating a fight. I don't recall a time when Hendricks had Lawler in any real danger. He landed some combos here and there in the 3rd and 4th, but nothing huge. Meanwhile, whether they were against the cage or on the ground, Lawler was punching him and he was just holding on. If you take someone down and you are the one taking all the damage, the takedown is pretty much meaningless.

Lay and pray... wall and stall... all the same.
There are numerous articles out there that talk about how much time he's spent training with Rener Gracie. It's sporadic, so he's just working for a week or 2 at a time. Rener has also complimented his ability to retain the info. Judging by a few videos I've seen, he's definitely not a "beginner."

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
Just finished watching this weekends UFC fights. Some good fights this weekend. I really thought Dos Santos lost that fight. He clearly won the 3rd round and I thought he clearly lost the first 2 rounds. Rounds 4 and 5 could have gone either way I guess. You just look at the damage on his face compared to what Stipe looked like and that says enough to me.
Dos Anjos is a beast. Really wanted to see him lose to Diaz. I've always liked the Diaz brothers, but I think that is the last time we see Nate.
Mitrione is such a fun guy to watch in the ring. He has grown so much since the TUF house.
Randa Marcos is still my favorite fighter from this past TUF. Once she gets some good striking and BJJ training under a respectable camp I think she can go places.
Rose is a fun fighter to watch, I just didn't think she was mentally prepared to fight on that big of a stage. She reminds me of Rousey and the Diaz brothers, cocky...I like that.

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
- Nate was an embarrassment this weekend (not just the fight) and I'd like to see him get booted out of the UFC. I'm pretty tired of their antics.
- If Khabib is out, Dos Anjos should definitely get the title fight. I don't see him having success against Pettis though. Pettis might consider checking a leg kick or 30.
- I don't think I agree on Randa. I think she was fortunate to be in the position she was in coming out of the show. I think Tecia Torres has more upside. (Markos beat Torres very early in the show)
- Both of the strawweights that fought on Saturday were very impressive (Jedrzejczyk & Gadelha)

Best I can find on a quick search. The 1 pic I'm looking for is only returning the photoshopped version of it.

UFC 182 coming up in 24 hours. Cannot wait! I do think the Jones/DC match is being a little over hyped. I don't think the "bad blood" is as bad as they are making it out to be. PPV sales were down all year long last year and they need something to hype a fight and get many PPV buys. What's crazy is that this event, as of yesterday, is still not sold out.
Jones wins, reach and creativity is too much and his wrestling has translated well into the cage. Of course DC has a fighters chance.
I'm more excited about the Cerrone / Jury fight. I have never been a fan of Jury, never disliked him either. He's kinda like a spider on your front porch, who cares it's outside. I think the Cowboy dominates this fight and gets another shot at the title, or a title qualifying match with Nurmagomedov. I just don't buy into the Dos Anjos hype as he was absolutely dominated by the Russian.

Re: MMA / UFC - Official Thread
I legit laughed... solid work schoola.
I agree that it's overhyped GG, but I do think there's bad blood. I was reading some fighter predictions and everyone seemed to be siding with Cormier. I'm with you, I think Jones has too much to offer in the other areas for Cormier's advantage in wrestling to overcome.
As for Jury, I'm a fan. The best comparison that I can make for someone that doesn't know a lot about him, is T.J. Dillashaw. (Interesting, as Dillashaw is with Team Alpha Male and Jury runs with Alliance, which are big rivals) Jury is from a new generation of MMA fighters, in that he's basically trained for MMA since he was in his teens.
The 1 other thing I'm looking for tonight is which version of Hector Lombard is going to show up. Is he going to be complacent and overlook Burkman, or is he going to come in like the freakin' maniac and slaughter him?

i meant the betting line. spend 190 to win 100. seems really low for a beast like bones.Whittness10 wrote:He must have lost 20% of his body weight by not being on the HGH.nick wrote:Bones is only -190 !?!?!!
