Not saying they are bad, items like your computer still work fine, but for whatever reason, they have issues with gaming systems.
For Shel, I will work with him a little tonight, but it may come down to asking Time Warner for a straight modem and not one with a router built in. We will see.
Try to make a long story short, but I think, or hope, you're onto something here and basically nailed it. It doesn't answer all the questions at all, but I'm a little more confident today.
Update:
Basically, I have a wireless network adaptor. A week or so ago, one of my boys knocked my computer over and broke it. Called internet provider, dude said to buy it on my own as it would be cheaper, then call them and they can help me set it up. Bought one, got it in a couple of nights ago, called my internet provider and got a dude who seemed extremely knowledgeable on gaming systems, he was a big gamer himself. Unlike the millions of times I called before and everyone always said they knew nothing re: gaming systems, this dude flatly told me that the modem/router combo, specifically the router they are contracted with, has HUGE problems with XBox and PS3, and my issue wasn't rare at all to him. He suggested what Shift did, the bridge thing. He said he and his brother have the same internet as me, same modem/router combo box, but their own router bridged. He gave me a couple of names of routers to buy that he knows work well with PS3s and my provider, and I think I settled on a Cisco Links 3000 or something like that.
I ordered it on Newegg, should be in probably tomorrow or so. Once it comes in, he said I can call them back and they'll walk me through the bridge thing, and fingers cross, we'll go from there.
I haven't touched my PS3 since my 1 disconnect, but I'll wait on that, then try some games, and take it from there.
