Maybe I've also come to the realization that, if almost EVERY coach is dirty (as some claim in here), then I can understand some being mad that Coach Cal is getting the talent and your coaches aren't. As for Pitino....a high school coach could've won the title with the talent Kentucky had that season. I don't think Pitino did much other than sub guys in and out that season.
Rick Pitino is a hall of fame coach. Trying to discredit his run at the title with UK just because he coaches Louisville now is quite sad. You wanna talk about insane talent carrying a team to success, look no farther than your intramural coach who failed to reach a final 4 with 5 1st round draft picks? Why couldn't PayPal Cal pull it off? Rick Pitino took 3 different teams to final fours, one being Louisville whom had just 1 NBA draft pick on that roster. Rick Pitino is a good basketball coach. I'm sorry if that upsets you because he coaches Louisville now but it's true. Sure UK was loaded with talent in 1996-1998, but you don't win basketball titles without a good coach. How much NBA talent do you think Duke had this year? Not much but I'm sure you would trade places with them. Unfortunately, your coach wouldn't stating that getting 5 picks in the first round is the biggest day in UK history. What a clown.

Have you not realized that no one cares about his personal life and him cheating on his wife? You've tried to crack jokes on it the past week or two and all are just flying over everyone's head. Not to mention, he was in fact going around lexington doing the same thing he just didn't get caught. Rick Pitino never has been some Mother Theresa. The guy is a lowlife, and pretty much a prick. He wasn't a saint at Kentucky either. Everyone knows that. With that said, hes a hall of fame basketball coach and no one really gives a damn besides UK fans that a women went on trial, and was found guilty for trying to extort him. Only UK fans are sitting around giggling at these little details about his sex life and relationship with her.
Are you KIDDING me?
I'd take the 1996 team over the 2010 any day of the week and twice on Sunday!!!
The 1996 team had the 1995 National HS POY coming off the BENCH PLAYING TWELVE MINUTES! You had nine guys who went on to play in the NBA. It's easily one of the three best teams in college basketball history! They scored 86 points against LSU AT LSU in the first half!!! If you think that Coach Cal not equaling that feat with a team that featured five (MAYBE six guys) who could end up in the NBA and absolutely no depth, and no three-point shooter (which is why losing Meeks hurt so bad), then you know nothing about college basketball. You can't win six games in a row in the NCAA tournament when you can't hit shots from the outside (coaching's got little to do with a guy's range) and when you don't have any depth (thank you Tubby).
And the last I checked, Rick Pitino is NOT in the Hall of Fame. I never once "discredited" his run, my point was that he's not some demi-God simply because he won a title. Pitino is no better of a bench coach than Calipari is--they both lack. Tubby was a TERRIFIC bench coach, but an awful recruiter. That's why guys like Izzo and Coach K and Roy Williams are at the top every year; they can do BOTH. Yes, Pitino's taken three teams to the Final Four, congratulations. That's a great achievement. Now, let me know when he takes a team to the title that isn't considered possibly the most talent-laden and DEEPEST TEAM of all time.
As for his personal life....the only reason UofL isn't firing him (he has a morality clause, remember) is that he has the history he does. That said, I love how UofL fans want to twist THIS one into "it's his personal life, get over it" when two years ago, they couldn't stop talking about Billy Clyde and his drinking problem. It's part of a rivalry, quit your damn whining. The national media picked up on it too and clowned him for a while. If I didn't LIVE in Louisville and have to hear about it constantly, I wouldn't care as much.
And Doley--Posting takes what....a minute?
Game takes an hour. I've had very few uninterrupted hours in the past week and a half. I'm busy as hell and I'm preparing to move.
VVV--Dave could've prevented them from missing their first 22 threes against the 131? And also get your facts straight--I didn't say that he wasn't a good coach. I simply said that outside of winning a title with that unbelievable team, he's never done anything to get him to that "elite" level. That's not a knock, there are only about 5 or 6 "elite" coaches. I don't consider him one. And I wasn't "polishing his knob" when he was at UK; I was 13 years old when he quit UK. I cared more about the PLAYERS than I did the COACH. Pitino is like Cal--great recruiter, great system, not a good bench/ Xs and Os guy.
