only thing i can think of off the top of my head would be:
-- shortens regular season
-- potentially the winning team gets some incentive (maybe a bye in playoffs, just thinking aloud)
-- replaces all star game (or maybe adds to it and those teams involved don't send players to ASG)
-- huge money incentives to teams/players
-- (never happening) they could invite top 2 from each conference from previous years and top 4 int'l teams (but the int'l teams would never be invited because it would hurt NBA and they have no incentive but it'd be cool and make it worth it)
NBA teams that have won championships also going to have a small gold patch on the back of the neck of the jersey's to signify they were champions.
i really wish they did small little titles like helmet stickers or maybe put the number of titles into the gold patch but from what i saw all the teams who won will have a single gold patch

the only incentive that i could think of would be a huge pay day for the teams and the players. it would have to be enormous to risk injury for star players.
i think it'd be cool if only say the final 8 teams from previous years regular season records made it. that would give an incentive for teams to play out the regular season.
I'm not the first person to bring this up but a single elimination tournament at the end of the season for the non-playoff teams that determines the draft order would be pretty cool.

We're talking about teams that tank for half a season trying to increase their lottery odds... you think they give a shit if you call them the best of the worst? They just want that 1st pick. I'm down for this.

I have hard time agreeing on a tournament to win the bottom of the barrel. if you can beat the last 6-8 teams than you don't deserve the first pick. if you tank and it comes up by chance, theen well it is.
I do however thing the lottery needs to be run by some third party group so there is no collusion possibility or conspiracy theory floating around.

When you guys (you and dave) say "mid season", do you mean stop the season and play it like the all star game? or do you mean during season, like the FA Cup and Champions League etc..., where the tourney is mixed into the season and goes concurrently?

Didn't even think of that, I like the idea of it being ongoing throughout the season, just not sure of the logistics on that.
Still trying to think of what incentives would make it worthwhile, and the best I can come up with is a lottery pick to the winner.

They play plenty of games, so that's not the issue. You play Sunday, Tuesday, tourney game Thursday, and then play Saturday. You could have "groups" so everyone gets at least 3 games, and then keep going from there. Without groups, you can still do is as a knockout tourney, and just mix the games in there during the normal course of play. I just didn't know if that's what they were talking about or not
