Yeah, I was a team far away when this latest run started until I made some bold moves to acquire John O'Connor and someone else. Then I signed a few guys and we were off. You can accelerate a rebuild by a few seasons. Guys just have it backwards most of the time. One 24 year old all-star level ML guy is worth 3 "top prospects" because who knows what they become. I trade away all my farm every season for a Lou Pryor type guy, a Dax Hicks type guy. Just keep doing it over and over again. I have been one of the top 3-5 most successful owners since I joined and I'd say that I have had a farm ranked in the 25-30 range 90% of the time.

I am glad most guys do it that way though as I can't do my thing without all these prospect obsessed dudes out there.

Pricey vets yes, but if you can trade 3 prospects in R ball for a guy who is ready now or in his 2nd year then I will do it all day long

That's come to an end for you. You don't have any "top prospects" in that farm system of yours.

And it all depends on the status of your team.
If I have 8 guys all rated good and they are all 2-3 years away from my ML team, I am going to wait the 2-3 seasons and then see what FA's I can fill around them, but to go after some high priced FA's right now, for the next 2-3 years, doesn't make sense.

Completely disagree and one of the most important things in this game is to not do the complete blow up, 50 win rebuilds but to stay in the middle of the pack and near .500.

This keeps your revenue flowing in, you sign some popular guys increasing fan interest, and just maybe you sneak into a WC spot for postseason revenue.

Sitting back and winning 60-70 games a season slowly kills your budget, no revenue, and your fan interest plummets.

Most still do not grasp this decades of playing seasons worth in this game.

I used to feel this way until I've stayed .500 for a decade and used to contend every few years by rebuilding.

Thats just Sheltown luck though :)

With you doing what you have you have consistently had high fan interest, high attendance, and have been a player in free agency almost every single year due to the cash you have.

All that success that has come with it too!!!

Also, that high fan interest has led to $10 ticket prices and low revenues for some reason still. :|

I can attest that the 50 win tebuilds isn't the way to go. By the time guys mature enough to make it you won't have enough money for FA's to fill around them.

Yes, assuming you have something to work off of. This franchise was already 80% blown when I took it over. As I said already, it depends on the team. Staying middle of the pack if you have several prospects in AA that are close is fine, but when you have all your best prospects, if you have any, in R then no.

Plus, once these younger players start reaching the ML level, and hopefully start winning then the budget increases accordingly. All about balance. A couple of well priced FA's here and there to spend your budget helps as well as opposed to dropping $18m on one guy when you have no chance of winning. Done this many times, in many leagues with success.

I would think we will be around 66-67 wins this year. Most likely breaking into the mid 70's next year.

Playoffs will be Tuesday at 9 pm EST. Not voting this year. Regular season ends Monday and playoffs Tuesday. That Friday I am going to Amsterdam for a week so this will give me Wednesday to do rollover and have us going before my trip
