Cactus
Marino
Rivera

All sitting this week with injuries.

It’s almost like when Billy won a title when Boston was obliterated by injuries and I was on vacation*

I'd go ahead and be real safe and throw them all on the 60 day DL :)

and I have lost 2 of my 5 starters including a top 3 SP in the game to go with the best 2B in the game in Ruiz..... I do not want to hear about injuries over there

Finally getting Todd Walker back next week. Just in time for a 4 game set against San Fran and 3 games against Winterfell. We need to just go 4-2 this week to have a chance to catch Winterfell.

Sounds like you need a better trainer

I probably should have done this a while ago but his ratings are really good. With our history we definitely need a new voice in the training room

David Smith threw 74! pitches in a 9 inning complete game against Charlotte

To my knowledge, that tied two others for the real life ML record but pretty certain some of our all time greats like maybe Esparza did it with fewer

We will be running our B+ team out there so its almost like a rehab start for him so that should help.

Sheltown finally breaks through against Boston after going like 4-97 the last 10 years against us with a modest 7-8 record in 2055.

The rest of the schedule, well its been tough.

Every season I basically go 3-16 vs Boston, 13 games over .500 vs the rest of the league, and finish right around .500.

This season I finally get near .500 vs Boston, and I'm 10 under vs the rest of the field.

Sheltown gonna Sheltown

There, I gave the thread a title. Referred to my ol pal Bill Simmons once again. By the way, I need a clever guy for thread titles in the future since Shel refuses to help me.

wdoupis wrote:That is another thing, when I do rollover I have to see everyones finances. I am always shocked at the amount of bad teams or even middle of the road teams that are sitting on 50 million cash and 80 million for free agents. If they signed 1 or 2 top guys they would be division contenders or better. I do not know if its due to lack of interest or just not paying attention to FA but teams sitting on all that money probably does not help our finances out much.
Disagree on this. We have a ton of cash to spend. Adding 2 guys with a combined WAR if 14 is not going to get us into the playoffs. I would say it is the worse thing a team rebuilding can do actually. Instead of picking in the top 5, I am now picking 14th. Rebuilding is a long, slow process and doing it right means you don't usually spend a ton of cash on FA's.

I tried to get rid of some of my cash by offering to take on bad contracts. I did this with some teams, but many of the teams who contacted me wanted to try and trade their bad contracts for value. So the talks never went anywhere.

When the time is right, we plan on being very active in the FA market, but that time is not now. We are not going to spend it in order to lower the league cash on hand, so the demands are lower.

When you're ready, you may not have money though if you're bad for long enough. Fan interest goes down, revenues go down, budgets go down.

Yes, but if you do it right those things all will all line up. Build a base of talent first and then compliment it by adding FA's. Finishing middle of the pack year after year is a waste..

I actually agree with you in your particular situation John as it was a super bleak situation you took over. It was not really a blanket statement that applies to all teams but there are quite a few that always have cash and never use it and never really make a leap.

I will say if you see a star type who is in his prime I still think its smart to go after these guys as they will only help when you are ready.

Pretty sure all his ratings will crash now, but I have no other options at catcher, glad to make him a lifetime Bulldog though

I think it depends on the team. If they are 1-2 years away from being good then yes I would agree. If a team is still 4 years away then it makes no sense.

Sign and trade is always a good option as well
