it's funny cause I know Jsence is a huge Italy fan so I automatically knew he'd be the 1st to reply and completely disagree.
The homerism is strong with this one.

I guess the British announcer is a homer too.
"The slightest clip of your foot or your heel when you're running full speed can send you flying." Said it as they replayed the "flop" as you call it.
Let me step on YOUR foot as you're running full speed on a wet pitch, we'll see how well you stay on your feet.

You don't think trying to draw a foul from where he was would have been beneficial?
The dude from behind stepped on his foot, no doubt, but he took a dive like no other and it was while they had a run.
He was on the ground writhing in pain, and the announcer EVEN said something to the effect of, "he'll be sure to pop up on his feet in a second" LOL.
If it's not a flop, there'd be no reason to be flailing around on the ground, then magically stand up 10 seconds later without even a limp, no?
if he's a homer for his school, this is king because it's in his blood.
...not worth it, but he was writhing in pain and got right up after another guy did it 5 mins before

1. Do you mean the same announcer who said he'd pop up on his feet WHILE he was writhing in pain like he had a broken foot? That announcer?
2. I'm not saying he didn't hit his foot or that it didn't hurt.
But you simply can UNBIASEDLY watch that play and deny that the dude was trying to get a call.
If you disagree, then simply explain why, like I said, dude is flailing around on the ground for 10 seconds like he's in the worst pain of his life, then gets on his feet and all of a sudden, he's perfectly fine.

You mean Montolivo? Who took studs to his lower leg and, had the pitch not been soaked enough for his studs to give, easily could've suffered a broken leg, which is what usually happens when you take a tackle like he did and your foot is planted?
Yeah....guess i'm a homer again because I understand how that would fucking hurt.
And Shel, a "dive" or a "flop" is when someone goes down for NO REASON. ALL soccer players roll around like that and then get back up. Very few DON'T. That doesn't mean they dove.
You want to see diving, watch Arjen Robben or the Portuguese team. And the color guy said he'd get back up; the play-by-play guy then made the comment I posted when they showed the replay.

Just for VVV, from the Soccernet Live Chat play-by-play (which is done by a Briton, mind you):
1' And we are off. It's not long before a we have an injury. Montolivio is clutching his leg after a tackle from Riveros. It should have been a card.
Still think he flopped?
And for Shel....his comment a few minutes later:
9' De Rossi scythes through the midfield and is then hacked down off the ball by Caceres, who escapes without a booking.
Guess he's a homer too?

Did he flail on the ground for 10 seconds like he was in the worst pain ever, then pop back up like he was 100% fine?
Yes or no?

I didn't see it, was watching E3 for a sec, lol.
But it's well established that, Italy doesn't flop, Coach Cal is clean, and it's a "joke" to think Coach K is the best coach in college hoops.
Unbiasedly speaking, of course.

Normally, I'd completely ignore a post like this.
But I have no clue what the correlation is, so i'm intrigued and will have to check it out now.

The Italians already lead the World Cup in bitching and crying to the ref by a wide margin and they're only halfway through their first match. Typical. Forza Azzuri!!!!!

You fucking kill me, Shel.
First it's, he flopped/dove.
Then, when you can't win THAT argument, you shift the focus to "oh, I just meant that he acted like he got fouled and tried to win a free kick", in hopes you'll look like you "won".
How about for ONCE, something I've NEVER seen you do, you say "you know what, I was WRONG, it wasn't a dive." If you want to clarify it with "BUT he overreacted" to say something correct, then that's fine. But how about you admit you were wrong for once, or just say you misstated your point, instead of being an ass and acting like you're never wrong???
He DIDN'T go down trying to get a foul--he WAS fouled!!!
And that third player who was laying there hurt, btw, was Buffon--who was taken off. For him to come off shows he was pretty hurt.
