Podcast about the NDL history--interested?

Post by jsence2 »

So I started writing for Barrett Sports Media earlier this year, a really good site for news on sports media and such. Two of my editors, Demetri and Arky, do a podcast about the NCAA Football games and it's pretty good.

https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cH ... Rlcy9mZWVk

I mentioned to him in passing this morning that I was part of a decade-long league that had a full 120-team setup...and he needs details. Like, all the details. He wants to have a few folks on to tell the story of the NDL, some of the best stories, talk about what it meant to us while it was going on, the friendships we developed, etc.

He's already got the show for this upcoming week lined up (he's got Finebaum coming on so it should be good), but he said he's open to any week after that moving forward. I figured it would be a fun thing to do and was curious who might want to join--preferably at least one or two folks from the original founding of the league in 2004 (I didn't join until 2008). Let me know if you're interested and I'll get with you and see what we can work out.

I'm honestly looking forward to this, esp when I realize it's been almost a decade since we were doing all this stuff and it led to so many fun times that I still remember, and friendships that I've still maintained to this day.

Would definitely listen, this sounds awesome. Doing interviews for a podcast aren't my thing though lol.

The old NDL hall of fame should be up, showing a statistical history of records / awards / etc. You can also see who was a original member, I’d imagine quite a few made it all the way through.

I’m in the slow process of making it more mobile friendly for a possible revamp with the new game. It doesn’t have a full hall of fame yet, so wouldn’t get much from that version.

And for all the work you've done, the work you're still doing, the knowledge of all of this that you hold...

You're at the top of my list of folks I'd love to have telling the story. My hope is to have a few of the OGs like you on, be the bridge to introduce you guys to the pod hosts and audience, and get the hell out of the way and let you guys go.

I miss that old fart. I hope he's somewhere in heaven playing COD and telling his opponents what he's gonna do to their moms.

Like holmey said, just show them the Hall of Fame page. I bring it up every so often when I am explaining the league and people are floored (often times simply not believing me) that it was a video game league.

Just came back to this. I mean, yeah ... I'd love to talk about this. I mean, I really would. I think I have a good story to tell. Mind you though, I only showed up in the NDL in Season 4(?) I think so I can't say much for how the NDL started but I can say that I was apart of legitimately the first ever NCAA football league to exist, some of which are/were in the NDL. The INCAA.

The guy's name was Khary and I was going through some legal trouble at the time so I had all the fucking time in the world (by the way, I am the first human being to 100 wins online in NCAA; USCBLEEDRED was first to 200 but he was gay) and Khary was a maniac. But he created a standalone website in either winter 02 or spring 03 and organized 110 I think it was at the time in I-A that if you really think about what someone like Holmey did for us, it was bananas. Leaguedaddy and Glen didn't exist and the whole fucking concept of a league didnt exist. I forget who in the NDL was also there but, back to my point, I'd need a bit of help bridging the gap between '04 and '05 I guess ... but see who else was NDL day one.

But I'd love to talk about it and I think you'll find that I'll run too long with how eloquently I can talk about how the online leagues started. I don't post much here but I'll check back more frequently.

And let me say this because I think I glossed over it. Khary was a good dude. Terrible people person. I ended up "solving" all of his issues but we were all so new to it that who knew what the fuck was going on and he coded the whole site himself so other than whatever permissions he gave me on tbhe forum, I couldn't finish out the league without him.

Also, if your friends really want to flesh out this podcast, tell them to find that guy Glen from Leaguedaddy. He is sure to have great insight because he legit changed the game on how online leagues were handled. Nothing like that existed. After the INCAA folded because Khary vanished, I started a league that was ill-fated because of my personal issues but I was one of the first to have a LeagueDaddy league if I remember right and you would have thought I brought the tablets down from the mountain. What that guy did, for like $5 a month or whatever it was, should also be spoken about.

It’s a slow process with everything going on these days, but I am trying to slowly bring the old HOF back up after some old coding caused the original site to crash a couple of years ago. I got Ken Massey to send me all the old results data and getting that loaded in over time.

Chase (VTRunngun) and I will be going on the pod next week so it'll be out in about two weeks.

Btw can someone clarify for me the whole story about Cole Beasley? That was one story I never fully grasped...was he in the league? Was that fake college player pretending to be him? What was the full story on that? Wanted to know in case it came up.
