Allow draft pick trading

Post by TheGobOne »

I would like to allow draft pick trading with 2 caveats in place. Please feel free to discuss and ask questions.

1) You cannot trade any 1st rd pick

This makes sure that teams will still get a good pick no matter what and the majority of the good talent is in the first round anyway.

2) You can only trade for the following year's draft picks

This makes it so teams can't trade all their picks for the next X years and then abandon their team. It will also make draft pick tracking much easier for me.

--------------------------------------

I feel like this could open up trading a little more (not that it's bad right now) as it will help people "fill in the gaps" in trades.

Also, this will facilitate easy cash swapping as draft picks can be sold for....well whatever the market determines, instead of people trading INTL prospects etc. This will allow the teams with cash sitting around (which is a lot more than I thought before I saw the rollover I did today).

I’ve never been a big fan of this but I do like the rules that you are suggesting and makes me more open to it. Curious what others think

Is a 2nd round pick worth trading for? :)

Now that there is some more randomness in the players that develop, I like this rule.
Maybe it is just me, but I feel like players taken in rounds 2-? now develop into something at times.
So it is nice to see this may be an option going forward.

And I like that you can only fuck up your team for the next year and not lose the 1st round pick.
That way if someone leaves before the end of the season and a new owner comes in, they still have their 1st round pick and they only have to suffer through the 1 draft, then they are back to normal.

60% is always the number I used.

Same, especially since it's only 1 year out

I also forgot to add if this rule passes I don't see any reason why we need to keep the rule where newly drafted players can't be traded right away. In fact, I accidentally processed trades with newly drafted guys by accident and no one noticed lol.

I think newly drafted players should be allowed to be traded, even if this doesn't pass.

Ya I guess there could still be some circumventing. Just would like to protect new owners from being or perpetually wrecked because they have no 1st rounder.

I hear you. Just seemed like you're making more work for yourself when immediately after the draft they may be allowed to trade their 1st rounder

Not sure how soon, but Dave (Stats+) is working on a new feature that will keep track of trades, confirmations, draft pick trades, etc.
So this should help if this passes.

Ya I'm really pleased with the turnout on the vote. Considering we have 29 owners right now that is awesome.
