Daniels still managed a 7.6 WAR while his zone rating is a -17.5
Herrera 8.3 WAR, plays catcher and fewer ABs.
I think Miami got screwed again in the MVP race.

Both of these guys drafted supplemental or later...

Daniels was by far the superior hitter of the two this year

As a team in 2072:
2nd in Def Eff
5th in ZR
1st in Errors

With that I won a single gold glove. It was a SP who pitched 8 games in the AL (22 in the NL) and had a combined -2.4 ZR over the course of the season. Seems legit OOTP.

I'm still trying to figure out why Daniels is playing in the field of a team whose DH had a sub .300 OBP.

WPA is probably the only thing Daniels can claim... But over in the AL, Sexton was only 38th so I'm with Nick here

WAR is more valuable than WPA tho.

https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comme ... rtant_why/

WAR is all about taking all stats in a vacuum and I think that's what sabremetrics agrees on. A guy who hits a home run in the first inning will have less WPA than a guy who hits a home run in the 9th inning to win the game. In reality though, both home runs are worth equal amounts, but our perception of them changes given the situation.

WPA is much more dependent on the rest of your team

WPA doesn't measure the most direct contributions to winning. It measures the highest-leverage contributions. If two players on the same team each hit a solo HR in a game, each home run provided the same contribution to winning. But if one of those home runs was in the first and the other was a walk-off, they'll have different WPAs. Even though they both helped the same and the first made the second possible. The first run is just as important as the winning run.

Is it really that big of a travesty that Daniels won the MVP? I would have voted him hands down over Herrera.

Neal Herrera -
1st in WAR
1st in BA
3rd in OBP
4th in Slugging
3rd in OPS
7th in RBI
5th in TB
6th in 2B
4th in RC
4th in RC/27
3rd in wOBA
8th in SF

Roger Daniels -
2nd in WAR
2nd in BA
1st in OBP
1st in Slugging
1st in OPS
1st in RBI
2nd in TB
2nd in XBH
6th in 2B
1st in HR
1st in Runs
1st in Walks
1st in IBB
1st in RC
1st in RC/27
1st in wOBA
2nd in ISO

George has said on numerous occasions he doesn't care about defense so use that for context on that big long post of his

Herrera's average defense isn't making up that many games versus Daniels horrible defense.

Herrera threw out 21% of would be runners, good for 7th in the NL (middle of the pack). Does that make up the superiority of Daniels bat this season? I don't think so, whether you are a defensive guy or not

Herrera should have won hands down and you're part of the very few who don't think so
