It's been 1.5% in the US since 3/19. We back up to 1.8% right now. As I outlined the pattern, we're likely going to rise in the near future, then have a large drop off. These numbers are rare and do not include non-confirmed/untested asymptomatic.

We're about to find out how high that rise will go, as many other major cities are starting to report that their ICU beds are at capacity.

what "laid off" specifically means
income brackets
not laid off but temporarily closed
how fast?
mortgages?
student loans?

Its all just hot air until the details come out in the 57000 page document they will release.
Don't you work in the healthcare field?
Layoff is not in your future.
Lol I'm a physician and currently without work. That being said, as an anesthesiologist, if this thing surges, I'll have skills in very high demand

I got out of the hospital setting about 4 months ago now.

I am doing healthcare software managing a book of clients across the US.

If I was still in my old job, 99% chance I'd have the Covid right now.

Can't recall if I posted it, but the person at the hospital who took my job when I left 6 months ago got the COVID.

The day over day % increase in cases the past 2 days have had the lowest increase in March. I posted something similar for 3/15 & 3/16 but it picked back up afterwards.

Interested to see how it goes this time.

The previous record for lost jobs in a week in the US was 695k in 1982.

We were projected to lose 1.65 million this week.

We actually lost 3.28 million jobs last week.

The comparison was like if the entire state of Iowa, among others, applied for unemployment.

Crazy

Are these numbers actual lost jobs or does it include people who have jobs but are not currently working?

Either way it's a staggering number but some of them, fortunately, will be able to go back to work once the self quarantine is lifted, or lightened.

The article I read categorized it as "new jobless unemployment claims"

Isnt that the same thing. If your job ain't paying u then u ain't got no job. Even if they've told you they will bring you back at such and such date.

Isn't any talk of fatality % kinda pointless? I mean, if someone is social distancing correctly - it's very possible they're socially distancing at home with low to mild symptoms that will pass without needing a test

Based on how many people with symptoms aren't getting tested then how many people who have it but are entirely asymptomatic so obviously not getting tested, I imagine the mortality rate is way lower than reported.

Both. Anyone who has officially filed for some type of unemployment relief.

I keep seeing this but not sure why.

The NY population is 5x bigger than LA, but they have 18x the amount of cases.

Also, looking over the last 5 days or 2 weeks, NY's daily % increase shows it rising faster than LA, so I'm not sure what gives.

It's probably just LA being woefully unequipped to handle this, that wouldn't be surprising at all.

First confirmed case for someone at our work location (different building than me) was announced last night.

But, it's cool, they sanitized the entryway and bathrooms for that building.

When I told my wife I had Chick Fil A while on lunch at work last week, she was like, "NOOOOO, you shouldn't be eating at restaurants"

Meanwhile, all the food in the house we eat comes from grocery stores...with people doing shit like this. But yea, they're much safer!!
