 I honestly dont follow the NBA close enough to know if there are 39 other better players than him at this point in his career but I agree with the idiots comment.
Kobe on ESPN ranking him 40th best player: "I've known for a long time that they're a bunch of idiots."

If I'm not mistaken, it's the metrics guys doing these rankings...or better said, the ones who are not the idiots :)

Damn, Henry Abbott putting Kobe on Blast:

http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_ ... s-downfall

The Lakers are going to be a wonderful trainwreck to watch this season. They're not shooting 3s because Byron Scott says 3 pointers get you to the playoffs but don't win you championships...despite 8 of the last 9 champions having shot and made more 3s than the other playoff teams in that season lol.

Then you have Kobe already leading the NBA in shot attempts per 36, and shooting 37%.

I just got done with that. Not a lot of surprises in there really. Post-basketball Kobe could be pretty entertaining in an awkward way. I could see him becoming one of those former stars that can't handle not being in the spotlight and is constantly coming out of the woodwork to remind everybody how great he was.

hes been doing that his entire career, wouldn't be shocking to see it post retirement.

Kobe is, imo, one of the most incredible stories in sports. he has had a great career mostly thru longevity and ability to be a top 10-15 player in the league for a long time but he's never been the best and rarely been in the top 3-5 in the league for any single season. his career has benefited from being the guy that NIKE needed after MJ left and then the fact he came before advanced statistics really became popular. now that its more widely accepted people are starting to realize he's been a REALLY REALLY REALLY good player, but not nearly the top 10 of all time type that many try to make him out to be. and the vast majority of people have been brainwashed into thinking he was that guy so when the topic is brought up he still gets defended to the grave because people don't want to admit that they were wrong for all those years. he also gets the benefit of the doubt because so many of his games were on TV and so many people saw big moments of his in person and that draws a nostalgic emotion out of people.

My W-L record is inflated due to the volume of those and easily winning every single one. :)

0.1% chance he was actually hurt.

they don't want him, he wants nothing to do with that trainwreck. he gets paid. Kobe will be 'hurt' by December 1st

Got two trips coming up in November and am looking to get two courts off my bucket list.

United Center Magic vs Bulls Nov 4th.
MSG Magic vs Knicks Nov 12th.

No, Im not a Magic fan. It just tends to happen that way. Last year it was the same thing with the Spurs. saw them play the Nets, Heat, and Nets a second time.

EDIT: New game added due to a stop in Milwaulkee :D

United Center Magic vs Bulls Nov 4th.
Bradley Center Bulls vs Bucks Nov 5th.
MSG Magic vs Knicks Nov 12th.

Anyone in the area planning on going to any of these games?

Bill Simmons has a really cool BS Report from 10/22.

He has Zach Lowe and Bob Voulgaris on to talk hoops. Lowe barely talks. But Voulgaris, who I've mentioned a few times, and Simmons go back and forth.

I'm a huge fan of Bob Voulgaris.

Voulgaris is about as arrogant as it gets.

he knows his stuff but he's one of the more disgustingly rude people i've ever followed on twitter.

Oh yea, big time. It's just funny to me though. It probably goes along with the arrogance, but I also appreciate how he's brutally honest all the time. Granted there's a distinction, of course.

At one point of the podcast, Simmons asks him if he was gambling in 2001, and Voulgaris responds with a super sarcasctic, "Yea", then follows up with, "I've been gambling since 1998." It made no sense, you'd expect the sarcastic "yea" if he was going to say he's been gambling since 1975, but not 3 years before the year in question lol.

doing what i do for a living, you get to know alot of guys who 'get hot' or 'have a great process' and become the top of the top in terms of trading. there is almost 1 overwhelmingly common theme, the ones who make it are humble. because along the path, the first time you get hot and you get an ego when you get smacked you lose all the arrogance real quick or if you don't lose it you fail cause your process gets overthrown by your ego... almost anyone can make it once, most people can't make it twice cause they can't get over the ego smacking they took when they failed.

you can't speculate money and be arrogant. the highs get too high and the lows get too low and its nearly impossible to execute a process and not let ego get in the way if you aren't humble and amazingly disciplined. to see how arrogant he is, i'd love to know his money mgmt and if he makes ANY decisions at all or if he simply follows his algorithms

Yea, that's exactly what I was thinking as I read your post. I know he has all his own systems and what not. He goes to that Sloan MIT conference every year and just tries to pick out those young dudes who like to crunch numbers and he hires them as part of his team to get the data for him.
