smoother than black ops2?
Yeah, but that's not saying much. The maps so far are disappointing.

I can deal with so so maps if the connection and hit detection are better (as IW games usually are)

Maps are bigger with more open sight lines... people die a bit faster (TTK quicker). Those are the 2 common changes I've read a lot about.

If this is the case then it will be a welcome change. In my opinion the maps have been getting more and more cluttered as the series has gone on.

Don't have to beat game to get extinction mode. Just start campaign mode and play a mission.

For perks... are you guys planning to spend your squad points to get the perks early or do you plan on waiting it out and getting the perks for free by leveling up? As I understand it, leveling up is a bit slower.

Going off of what I've read... not seen...

You have 10 characters that you can create. Each character can have 5 classes. When you prestige, you prestige the character. So you can get to 10 prestige, 1 for each character. When you prestige the character, you are basically done with them.

So to answer your question, yes, you have 5 classes, so you could setup the different point streaks.

Also... care package isn't a point streak. You can get a care package by completing a field order. A random player starts the game with a field order. This is something like "get a kill while prone" or another fairly basic task, from what I've seen. If you complete it, you get the care package. However, if you have the field order and you die, a blue suitcase shows up and and enemy/friend can grab it. Then they will get their own field order.

First impressions

Never has a call if duty game play as great as this one day 1. No connection issues, no lag, no host migrations all day. Just perfect.

Maps are big but open. Multiple ways of going in and out of places

The slide thing and how you move over stuff is a nice addition.

Guns are okay. Kill streaks are okay. The New UAV is useless. The dog is useless unless you stay in one spot.

The new point system to unlock things gonna take some time to figure out.

Domination is back to oldschool way which is awesome.

Nothing earth shattering but very good

Maybe the first COD that has actually worked on the launch date ever?

It’s actually rather smooth. It feels to me like IW dusted off the MW2 engine. While COD must invest in a next-gen engine soon, it’s a welcome change over the garbage that Treyarch produces. There were still some lag issues but nothing like Blops2. Hopefully, they will dial in the engine over the next few weeks.

The guns feel pretty good and hit detection feels about where it needs to be. The game is pretty unforgiving, you get caught in the open and you’re dead. There appears to be no dancing away from bullets.

The maps are the biggest disappointment for me. There are no signature maps that I’ve seen. A few that will be fun but overall nothing special. The series has gotten worse over time with it’s map making. Long gone are the W@W and MW2 maps that made the game so great.

Speaking of maps, I hate how every map is an open floor plan. There are 50 ways to get everywhere so you end up getting shot in the back 75% of the time. Every fucking time I turned my head somebody was either behind me or in one of the 1000 open windows.

Where are the claymores and bouncing Bettys? Is there an equivalent to them somewhere?

There also appears to be an extra map that some of us have and some don’t. I looked at my COD box and I do have the extra map but the game was showing that Biffy didn’t.

Overall, a step up from Blops2 and MW3. Some annoying map designs that I’m sure I will get use to but are grinding my gears right now.

I actually enjoyed playing Core last night. Ran with Biffy, AJ and Badger for awhile. Huge learning curve this time for me. I'm confused on a few of the upgrades and loadout building, but seems to be coming along. Has anyone figured out the formula for squad points? I earned 0 one match and then 6 another and Biffy called out he earned 22 in a match. Overall I'm not sure I will get this for PS4 and since I have BF4 reserved for PS4 and I'm keeping PS3 I'm not sure what I'll do. Alot of clan mates are making the jump though, so we'll see. My son wants my PS3, but I'm going to use it as a netflix box and game unit in the bedroom, so he is out of luck.

Sounds a lot like my experience last night.

- I felt like a lot of the maps were very similar. 1 wide open area or strip, multi-level buildings surrounding it. 6 doors into every room. 3 windows each. (ok maybe some exaggerating)

- It seems like most of my deaths were from behind.

- I'm still have the same issue that I did from BLOPS2, of shooting someone 3x with hit markers, before they raise their gun, and dieing, then watching the kill cam and seeing them fire of 10 shots before I raise my gun. I don't know of anyway to get around this, but it's going to completely ruin this game for me if it continues. I hardly ever see the issue at long range, it's always something that happens around 10-40yds out. Under that seems ok, beyond that seems ok. Whether it was artificial or not, one thing I resorted to on the last game was streaming my NBA league pass while playing. For whatever reason, I cut the frequency by more than half.

- At first glance, the maps would really favor sniping... but there are so many access points to most good sniping locations that it's not going to be very common.

- I think I'm going to have to adjust my loadout based on the above issue right now. So either I learn to snipe or I go shotty/knives. Cheesey, but maybe my only option currently. Hopefully I can get a PS4 and never see this crap again.

^ The close combat sync problem is pretty common. It seemed to be happening more as the night went on. Usually, hip firing with a fast gun is the equalizer but I certainly got killed a few times by trusting what I saw on the screen. Rookie mistake.

As what what you guys are saying about the maps, it is typical for IW to do maps that way. They like the big open sight lines and 3arch loves close quarter combat.

So basically you're just spraying from the hip as soon as you catch a glimpse? That's kind of why I was thinking the lame old shotgun approach. Even with lag, I just need 1 shot in close quarters.

I agree to some extent. Of course, most of the IW map makers are with Respawn now. While some of the maps do have long sightlines which are great there are a bunch of them that are more combination maps. They are multiple tight corridors that dump out at the same location. So, you don’t have the sightlines, instead, you have all these feeder paths.

That is the way that I've always combated it. Never look down the sights in close combat.
