A kid just turned in a powerpoint that stated that Jacques Cartier sailed with many famous explorers such as Henry Hudson, Giovanni Verazano, and John Glenn.

A+

2 more weeks till fall break. 2 weeks off. Been a long stretch. Our first 9 week grading period is actually 10 and a half.

I teach math but somehow the topic of the Titanic came up randomly in conversation and after a minute or so another student remarked, "Wait, the Titanic really happened??"

As a teacher of an elective, we need to "mix in" the core subjects that our students will run into on standardized tests. So, in my class when we do "math" its always finance or whatever.

I just had a kid say there was 9 dimes in a dollar.

Several others dont know how to figure out change.

I wondered....what is it like to be actually dumb....

Like when they are daydreaming or just thinking .....whats going through their mind?

In their defense, playing Nole(devils advocate), who uses change anymore let alone the last time you counted change out?

Do they even teach that in school anymore honestly?

I couldnt tell you the last time I touched a quarter.

My favorite when I used cash was when I would give the fast food cashiers a dime or nickel to get "easier"change back and they would freak out because they had no clue why I was giving them a dime.

There was a cart girl at the golf course we played at a few weeks back that couldn't add up the cost of the drinks we bought in her head, and then failed using the calculator as well. It was sad. At least she had her looks to fall back on, so guessing she was about 20, she's set for another decade or so.

Speaking of cringing:
I would tell him that he should give a chance to explain what they did and why they done that, and if they had a reason that explains why they done that, and if you thought they was lying then I would tell him that he should take them to jail.
and from the same individual:
I think that the most important battle was the battle of Lexington. I think that the battle of Lexington was more important than the battle of concord, because nothing had really have really happened then like that was like the first battle or like the first shooting.

They don't care. They throw away dimes, nickels and pennies.

Working on tips, my wife always has cash and still does this. It's probably above 50% of the time where you get the look of confusion from the cashier.

We have a snack table and refrigerator full of soda, juice and water, which both work on the honor system. I'm good for $1.50 in change every day. :-)

This isn't just a high school thing either. While I'm in a fairly advanced and fast paced degree program, that hasn't stopped me from running into some real morons. If I get a chance later today, I'll try to find some written work that a few of the females thought was good enough to submit for a few group assignments. Fair warning, don't gouge your eyes out after trying to read it.

Currently working on my minor for leadership in completing my degree and we do this web/conference type call thing with the webcam and about 85% of the chicks in my class are 20-23 and I am the old, failure guy creeping on them.
