is the PSN network down?
Re: is the PSN network down?
Yea, taking down stats and writing fake news articles is the fucking epitome of cool.

The reality is, the chief reason we still love Ps3 is because the Online Service is free & reliable...Well now both of those things are up for debate as Sony has long lost the 'online entertainment' battle.
More online gamers are on XBOX and with the given prices these days, I'm sure we traded in our fancy paperweights, we could walk away with a new console >$100.
I'm all for the majority here as this fiasco has stretched my patience thin. Imagine if this were to happen in July or August - our entire season would basically be a wash
Too bad those of us who use our "fancy paperweights" for things like BluRay movies would then have to turn around and buy a BluRay player, putting us out of even more money.

Re: is the PSN network down?
Sony has the best game developers working for them and for that reason I will always buy the Sony product before any other.
Re: is the PSN network down?
I wasn't implying that we switch...I just wanted to know who had both...I know I do, and Matt, and Reign...I like to add people I know to my friends list on both...

Re: is the PSN network down?
The PlayStation network has been down since April 20, and despite claims from Sony that the service would be partially operational by now, it's still down. And could be for some time, if a report in Bloomberg is correct.
"Sony is uncertain when it can resume the services," Tokyo-based Sony spokesperson Shigenori Yoshida is quoted as saying in the report, before letting slip a new return date, "The company is in the process of adopting an improved security system and its plan to restart the services fully by May 31 is unchanged."

Re: is the PSN network down?
At least it will be up in time for NCAA season....hopefully!
It will be a much more productive May without it for me.
I have a 360. I will have to turn it on and verify my screen name on there.
I received the Kinect as a Christmas gift, so it was turned on about 3 times since then. Before that, it wasn't turned on for about 8 months.
I really do like both systems.
I used to play everything on the 360. Then I got into the Madden league I am in which is on the PS3, then I found the NDL and the rest is history!

Re: is the PSN network down?
i'm starting to think this was done by a bunch of girlfriends and wives that were feeling neglected!
Re: is the PSN network down?
Pretty sure that date is talking about having everything fully operational. The plan was to have the PSN up for gaming first and then the store a month later. So, that date might mean the store. At this point, who knows.

Sony may have headed off planned weekend attack
by Erica Ogg PrintE-mail.26 comments Share
A group of hackers that planned an attack against Sony's servers this weekend was unable to execute its plan.
CNET has learned that our publication of the group's plan may have caused Sony to secure the remaining servers this group claims it had access to, shutting off any avenues for another attack.
Wrote one of the members in the Internet Relay Chat channel the group uses, "Apparently Sony saw that article because the last server that I could access is offline now...its probbaly (sic) being patched like the other servers. There goes our window."
On Thursday we reported that a group of hackers believed to be involved in the intrusion on PlayStation Network was planning yet another attack on Sony, this time on an unspecified company Web site, with the goal of posting any information they could find somewhere online. The hackers said at the time that they were planning another wave of cyberattacks against Sony in retaliation for its handling of the PlayStation Network breach. An observer of the Internet Relay Chat channel used by the hackers told CNET about the hackers' plans.
In what may be connected, Sony said Saturday that on Thursday it had removed the names of 2,500 entrants to a 2001 Sony contest with partial addresses that had been copied from an old part of the company's Web site and posted online.
No one has publicly taken credit for the attacks, but the hacker group Anonymous, who has been linked with the attack by Sony and others, has denied involvement in recent events.
In addition, the company said Saturday that the PlayStation network was still not ready to bring back online, following a massive security breach of three weeks prior. A company spokesman said the company was still trying to grasp the size of the subsequent Sony Online Entertainment gaming network breach, which is delaying the rebuild of PSN.
Sony has shut down PSN, Qriocity, and Sony Online while it does a total rebuild of the security systems. Overall, the personal information of more than 100 million Sony customers has been exposed in the breach. Sony has promised to compensate customers with free ID theft monitoring, as well as free content and 30 days of free access to the premium version of PSN.

Re: is the PSN network down?
wonder if it'd be smart to put $$ in stocks for PSN, cause we know this will eventually fix itself and not tarnish the PSN name, so get it at a low now with people tripping, and watch the stock go up once online is fixed and they make shit better moving forward...
