Bowden To Retire
Wow,Never thought I'd see the day! Great coach and it's time I think. He had a Great Run!
Re: Bowden To Retire
Thought the announcement was coming tomorrow. I think he should go one more season. He should get to go out with maybe their last game in front of the home crowd.
Sad when a legend like that doesn;t quite get to leave on his own terms.

Re: Bowden To Retire
A hell of a run for the old guy.
I'm 100% certain he wanted to stay and was basically told he couldn't, but obviously, they had enough respect for all he's done to let him say he retired. No question about it.

Re: Bowden To Retire
meh, its fine
if he wanted to fight it im sure he coulda stayed
honestly he prolly stayed about 4 years past when he should have left
that being said, there would have been grumblings but he coulda fought it stayed his last year
im sure tk didnt say "you're out" but let him no in no uncertain terms what his opinion was and that it defintely is to the detriment of the pogram if he does stay
anyway, im not sad about it. i dont think we "forced" him out or let him go soon as his usefulness was done
he's had 10 years of mediocrity, he deserved every moment of those years he got to right the ship.
if anything i think that time in this say and age is a credit to nole nation to let him go as long as we did. shit i remember Dave making some good points on these boards 3 years ago as we compared their longtime bball coach and bowden and actually changing my mind a little...and im the most patient in the world and was a firm supporter of let him coach til he dies
anyway, the real impact of this since bobby hasnt "coached" in the last 15-20 years anyway is Jimbo can now hire HIS own defnsive coordinator
Bobby has always been big on hiring assitants based on relationships...I think Jimbo will just want to win
either way, I'm excited
Hey Daw...you keeping FSU?

Re: Bowden To Retire
jimbo has actually not been bad this year
no pun intended but i see what he did there this season
weatherford was NOT the qb for him. he needs a mobile qb to maximize his schemes. he's much more comfortable and creative
our offense will NOT be an issue next season...even with manuel, the only time we actually looked bad was against fla but thats just kudos to fla for having a sick defense
this season turned me around on him and i think he's a real upgrade
we'll see how it goes and how he does offense if he will keep reigns or bring someone in
gonna be fun either way

Re: Bowden To Retire
I've been a Bowden fan for a long time. I loved the attitude of his early days of play anybody anywhere, and his riverboat gambler play calling. I'm sorry to see him go.
I'm not sold on Fisher either. It seemed some of his play calls were designed to make Bobby retire. I'm not talking about puntrooksies or fumblerooskies. I'm talking about with 1:30 left in a game, and a hb already over 180 yds rushing, and your on the 3 yd line 2nd and goal, and the other team still has 2 timeouts, and you line up in 5 wide and throw an incomplete pass instead of pounding the ball with said hb, and making the other team use its time outs. Stupid shit like that.

No way. Mickey was part of the problem, keeps running the same defense all season long even though he did not have the personal to run the system, just dumb. And Richt was never an option to come back, he is a coaching mercenary. Think about it, he was a QB at Miami and then coached QB/OC for us?
I wish Bobby would come back, but what I have heard seem to basically rest on the fact he wants to hire the next DC, but they have told him it will be Jimbo's call.
Re: Bowden To Retire
I always thought that guys like Joe Pa and BB are such legacies that they can stay when they want...and they should be able to.
here is the diff though, it is clear that JoePa hasnt called much of anything much like Bobby has in years. Joe Pa is still winning. Joe Pa went through the same shit that Bobby did then the next year they were Orange Bowl Champs against FSU. FSU has not done a thing since.
Sometimes you have to steer something in the right direction.. Like Nole said 10 years of mediocrity can get old. I am NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a fan of the HC in waiting stuff, with some of the names out there now they could have gotten someone better than Jimbo.

Re: Bowden To Retire
it's sad to see Nole talking about FSU nation while he's employing a UF avatar and using UF in the league.
A FSU fan using UF and a UF fan using FSU? Disgusting.

Could this be the first time we agree on something?
Re: Bowden To Retire
I guess when your players start doing this, it's time to go?

They have done that all season long when they believe the defense is offsides, first time I have seen them be wrong all season long in fact.

Sorry, I already called dibs. Corey did too. There's a discrepancy as to who called it first.
Better luck next time.
