Soccer discussion thread

Post by jsence2 »

I figured instead of having a bunch of small threads, we could go ahead and start one for the upcoming season. Whether it's to discuss matches, national or club teams, or transfer rumors/news (which is always fun), post whatever you like!

To start off w a topic we were discussing the other day....looks like the Tevez to Corinthians deal has fallen through, they simply cannot get the money together before the end of the transfer window on August 31. There are also rumors that are getting stronger that indicate Wesley Sneijder may be on his way to Manchester United after all, perhaps before the All-Star game next week.

Really looking forward to this ManU-Barca friendly. I've been dying to see how Cleverley looks after his year on loan, and I'm interested to see how he and Anderson play together. I honestly think they both could be terrific midfielders in a 4-4-2 (instead of the 433 we've been running), and that's what formation SAF has put them in tonight.

We won't post that we've landed on the moon.

Really impressed with how Rafael played, I think he's going to be a star in the future. Love what Ashley Young brings on that left wing as well. seems to be worth every pound spend.

Ugh....I know the ball changed direction midflight, but for 20 million pounds I'd expect better keeping than THAT :(

GREAT finish by Owen.

If he could stay healthy just ONCE, I think he's in position to have a true comeback season. He's looked in top form this tour. he'd give us a great fourth striker with Rooney/Berbatov/Chicharito.

2-2 in the Community Shield (aka the Manchester Derby). De Gea responsible for both goals in the first half for City, especially the second one....and then Smalling and Nani within 5 min of each other to level. 20 minutes left, looks to be a great finish.

The buildup/passing for Nani's goal was TERRIFIC, especially Rooney's backheel flick.

Yes, but not towards the season standings. It's for the Community Shield (it's a plate like the women's Wimbledon trophy, not a round trophy); it's between the Premier League champion and the FA Cup Champion (if the two winners are one and the same, then it's prem League champion vs Prem League runner up)

There's going to be a SERIOUS fight come January's transfer window to land Neymar. Chelsea and Madrid both have the funds and both want him badly. Woudln't surprise me to see Barca jump in, if only to drive up the price and try to prevent Madrid from getting him.

I'm 100% sure they signed him to the youth academy; our media outlets are stupid.

This isn't a shocking thing, this kid is a prodigy. Madrid was one of a few academies trying to sign Adu when he was 12....scouting is a huge deal in soccer, you sign a kid early, you invest big dollars into him to bring him through your academy.

Here's how "shocking" this is to the rest of the world: It's the very LAST headline (of about 15) on Soccernet.com which is ESPN's own soccer website.
