The Cup strikes back (round 2)

Post by fsupenguin »

ROUND TWO

Image@Image
The Golden Bears rested up in week #1, and now face UCF via simmed win over Penn State. We know the Cal has speed to burn, and threw for over 400 yards in the only action we have seen from them so far this season. This should be enough to outlast the Golden Knights who I expect will be scrambling after the Cal receivers all game.
Prediction : Cal by 2 scores
The Truth is : Sim win for Cal

Easily one of the most interesting games of the cup so far as these two powerhouses already share a common past opponent in WSU. Both teams played dominating defense vs the Cougars, but Texas scored substantially more points (41 vs 24). Either of these teams could very well win the national title and or cup title this season, so even the smallest advantage might make the difference. While my head says Texas seems to be unstoppable, my heart makes a compelling case for the Trojans having the homefield in this one.
Prediction : USC at the gun by as much as 3, or as little as 1
The Truth is : Texas by 20

These guys are both past champions of the NDL, and it's just a shame games like this aren't broadcast for the rest of us to be able to watch live. The Huskies came away with a solid win over USF in round 1, and have plenty of talent to make a deep run in the tourney, but they face a juggernaut I fear in Louisville. With perhaps the best QB in nation at the helm it is a tall order for any defense to slow down the Cards, and the home field might not be enough to carry Washington on in the cup.
Prediction : Louisville by 7
The Truth is : Sim win for Louisville

We know the Ducks are good, very good in fact, but Notre Dame does feature a long tenured coach and impressive wins over a ranked Auburn (cup game) and a top 5 ranked Michigan State already this season. The Irish are a worthy opponent, and won't give anything away easy, but I am drinking the Oregon kool-aid still.
Prediction : Ducks by 2 touchdowns
The Truth is : Ducks by 7

The Beavers were gifted a sim win in the 1st round, and now they face a giant with a visit from Alabama. Perhaps the homecrowd can cook up something special for this game and give the Beavers a boost, or a shave, and find a way to get the win. But it just doesn't seem like a good matchup for them to me.
Prediction : Tide Rolls by a couple scores
The Truth is : Bama 28-7

Stanford is another team who is still alive to due to the mercy of a sim, and Georgia Tech has yet to taste victory this season as well. The Cardinal have the personnel edge, and a coach who spent some time coaching on the flats for the Yellow Jackets, so I see yet another loss to a tough opponent for the engineers.
Prediction : Stanford by 10
The Truth is : Sim win for Stanford

In round 1 of the cup the Bruins took out Iowa by 12 points, and in week 3 of the regular season the Cyclones lost to the same Iowa squad by 21. Could get messy.
Prediction : Bruins romp by 30ish points or so
The Truth is : Sim win for Iowa State

ROUND TWO PREDICTION : 5-2
ROUND TWO ACTUAL : 3-4

USC got worked over by Texas, 4 turnovers killed is and then not being able to intercept 3 passes on Defense that led to TD drives for Texas
