Re: NBA Thread
Most here probably get this, but it gets us more than others because we're sports fans. We've grown up with Kobe. He graduated the year before me and I remember writing about him late in HS, before he was drafted. We saw the situation in Colorado play out, we saw him deal with injuries and his relationship with Shaq. Then as we had children and went deeper into our careers, we got to see him do the same. Watch him wind down his NBA clock and start a new one with some very promising business ventures and see what he was doing with his children, etc. While we aren't NBA stars, and we don't live on that scale, a lot of of the foundation of what we saw is something we can relate to. Around 4 yesterday, about 2 hours or so after hearing about it, I'm driving my 2 daughters to meet my wife at a family event... you just never know and I think that's why this one really hits home for a lot of us.

Re: NBA Thread
Some journalist posted this gut wrenching, most likely scenario during those last few moments and how it would have played out and being with his daughter and what he would have possibly have been doing.
Was a rough read.

Re: NBA Thread
Celtics coach said it well " me being older, Jordan was my guy. The current Nba players, they grew up watching Kobe and it hits the NBA really hard." its amazing athletes across every sport saying stuff from Tiger to Neymar in France. You throw in some kids into the tragedy, its going to affect everyone at every age.
my wife doesnt even follow sports , and she even shed tears. i did as well. enjoy every moment you live and enjoy your kids and every experience they have, if its winning a basketball game or just throwing a temper tantrum in the corner. step back and just smile and laugh. life is short.

Re: NBA Thread
Kobe’s final NBA game - in which he scored 60 points - will re-air tonight on ESPN at 9 PM EST. A must watch.
I'm not even a Kobe guy, but that was one of the cooler sports moments I've watched live. I don't care how many shots it took him to get there, it was just a cool sports moment.

Trailing by 17 or more with 3 minutes or less...
Since the data started being tracked in 1997, teams in that situation have had 0 wins and 8,378 losses.
Until last night. Twolves were ahead by 17 with 2:49 left, and they lost by 4.

Usher sucked. Boyz II Men killed it. LeBron’s speech was gutsy. Halftime Charlie Puth/Wiz actually got me the most.shel311 wrote:The build up and start to this Lakers game is gonna be a tear jerker.

Re: NBA Thread
Yep, Usher just really butchered Amazing Grace. It's just not meant to draw it out and sing it that slowly IMO.
I kinda think Lebron's speech tonight is the moment where the Laker die hard fans really accept him in the inner sanctum of all time Laker greats. It was a really good speech.

Definitely will help him get more love but I can't see him in that category when he will only have been there 4 years and it was at the tail end.shel311 wrote:I kinda think Lebron's speech tonight is the moment where the Laker die hard fans really accept him in the inner sanctum of all time Laker greats.
