Parenting Rant for Today

Post by dakshdar »

I love Halloween.

My kid's really love Halloween.

I hate that Halloween season means cable TV starts airing Halloween Horror Nights and Knott's Scary Farm commercials after 6 or 7 pm repeatedly while we have something on like a Dodger's game. Annoying to have to scramble for the remote and flip channels to avoid exposing the kids to that stuff.

And that's my parenting rant for today, 10/3/2018.

My boys were huge into Peppa Pig. They're 7 now, those days are over.

It's all Fortnite and Minecraft and Roblox now!!!

My son watched 2+ innings of the playoff game last night with me and I think someone was cutting onions in the kitchen.

Kid hasn't been this hooked on something since his toddler years of Yo Gabba Gabba.

Charlie just recently discovered the classic Looney Tunes Big Bad Wolf cartoon. Hopefully that will translate into some Marvin the Martian and Bugs Bunny shenanigans.

No. No guns allowed. I had to take the guns out of the packages of the Avengers and Batman toys he has (per wife's orders).

Doesn't stop him from running around saying he's going to "pew" everything while making "pew-pew" sounds.

Not sure what my wife thinks she is accomplishing...

We recently added Boomerang Channel on Amazon Prime Video. They have a load of the classic Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby Doo. Worth the $5 a month for while they want to watch them and then can drop it any time and pick up a different channel if desired (we used to have the PBS channel but we get that on Spectrum and don't get Boomerang).

I think the only thing we've ever turned the TV off for was when my wife had Shameless on and the kids came in to the room. That was just do the ridiculous language (I'm not a fan of the show I think it's terrible). We're usually just up front with the kids... this isn't real, this is a tv show, etc. Kids are 3 and 6.

My daughter just turned 2 and she is big into Peppa Pig right now.
That, Daniel Tiger and Pinkalicious are her favorites.

My son is 5 and into the Kratt brothers, which I love, because he learns a lot about animals.
That and he watches youtube for kids and watches a few good "shows" on there, but I dont recall their names right now.
