My oldest kid

Post by LetsGoPeay »

So my oldest son was asked to play for a high level AAU team out of Indy. It's an Adidas sponsored team that's part of the Eric Gordon AAU organization (EG10 All-Stars) so pretty much the only thing we pay for is our own travel and food money for him. We'll be traveling to Chicago (Romeoville, IL), DC, Dallas, Atlanta, New Orleans, Cincy, Columbus, and Vegas with him for tournaments. Pretty exciting stuff. Any NDL'ers in any of these cities got any words of advice? We're pretty familiar with Chicago already.

Let me know when you are going to be in the area and maybe Shel and I can sit in the outfield waiting for one of his bombs.

Seriously though, let me know when the time comes and I'll try to shoot you some tips and advice on the area once you know more specifically where in Dallas you will be.

Congrats to him

Actually this is basketball. We had to choose between basketball and baseball and he went with hoops. It was a really tough decision but we just couldn't do both and we still have the other kids too. His travel baseball coach has pretty been pretty persistent though. He's even said that Brevin could just show up at tournaments when convenient to pitch. We are going to do that when we can work it in. He's throwing 82 with accuracy now at 13. He's just more interested in basketball.

If it had been completely up to me it would have been baseball but he wants to do this. I'm not going to force him into something he's not completely into.

LOL, I definitely was not overthinking your statement. I guess I just stated my thoughts incorrectly. I would have liked him to continue in baseball but he's not into it as much as basketball.

So I’m going to brag on my kids a little bit again.

Image
My oldest, Brevin is a freshman in high school now. He’s 6’5” and should grow to about the 6’7”-6’8”ish range. He’s started on the varsity from game 1 and is averaging a double-double (12 and 10). Right now amongst all freshman in the state he is:
7th in scoring
5th in 3pt% (41%)
2nd in total FG% (59%)
1st in rebounds
2nd in blocked shots
1st in double-doubles

They won last night to advance to the sectional semifinals. They should win Friday and in all likelihood will be playing the school at which I’m the AD for the sectional championship which should make for an interesting night. He also has an early offer from Saginaw Valley State which is a D2 school. This summer he’ll be playing on the Under Armour Circuit with his AAU team (UA G3 Grind) so I’ll be doing some traveling around the country again.

My daughter, Rylee, is an 8th grader this year. She’s 5’8” and averaged 15 and 12 for her team. She’s a lefty and is still figuring things out. She’s extremely left hand dominant so that’s on our list of things to work on this summer. She’s usually the best athlete on the floor so she’s been able to get by with it. She shoots it well out to about 22’ and gets to the rim pretty well. She gets fouled a ton and is a good FT shooter. She’ll be playing with an AAU team this summer too (Indiana Blizzard) for the first time so that will add to my travels. They tend to stay a little more local though.

He handles it really well. One of his biggest strengths is his shot fake and drive. He’s pretty good at using his shoulders to hold off defenders on drives and he has a really nice spin move off drives. He finishes real well with his left hand around the basket.
