Boston In a Hot Minute....men

Post by Cnasty »

Coming off back to back postseason appearances with a couple playoff series wins in their pocket and having Richmond on the ropes a couple times, Boston enters a limbo season.

We are shopping high quality players in their prime to get younger in the farm and at the MLB level for a sustained run. If no takers, Boston should be a playoff contender again and hope to surprise in October with another run.

Lineup:
The lineup is one of the best in baseball and should score a ton of runs but hope not to give them back on defense as we are just average in the key spots in the infield. Anchored by the unanimous MVP from last year, Francisco Lugo, this lineup should light up the score board consistently with good pop, OBP, and speed in the right spots. Prediction: Top 3 in most offensive categories

James West-LF-Asked for no less then 20 times in trade discussions he finally gets a chance to anchor the leadoff spot in Boston for many years to come. Tons of contact and the fastest player in the league should be a terror on the base paths and play gold glove quality in the OF. Excited to see what he can do.
Rodrigo Costa-3B-One of the purest hitters in the entire league and has been a tremendous performer...when he is on the field. Injuries have him hit hard last year but his numbers are astounding when he is on the field. Look for a big year and more stable game time hopefully.

Aaron Kimble-1B-Kimble is a big bat that was relegated to bench duty last year with Eddie Munoz having a monster season. With Eddie sitting in FA, Kimble is ready to be the big bat again in the lineup with tons of power. His glove is terrible so we may have some issues there.

Franciso Lugo-Reigning MVP has had back to back monster seasons and finally broke through at the age of 26 to the player we all had hoped for when he came in from Moose Jaw. He has some of the biggest power in the game and can anchor the lineup in the clean up spot and hope the big hitters in front of him are on the paths when he cleans the bases.

Millard Jacobs-RF-Mr. Consistency is what we call him. You can pencil him in for .300/20/80RBIs and a solid glove in the field. He will be learning RF this spring as West will take LF for now. One of the most reliable hitters in the league as you know what you will get from him and hoping a bit more as he turns 27 and hits his prime this year.

Roberto Ramirez-C-He quietly has been one of the better catchers in the league for 3 years now and just performs every single year. Like Millard, you know what you are getting with him and surprisingly already in his 6th season in Boston.

Roy Mata-CF-Came over to Boston in a quiet move but has dominated in CF filling a black hole in that space for Boston. He is one of the best gloves in the league at the spot and his speed on the base paths brings a little mix into the powerful Boston lineup.

Edmond Jones-SS-After Kline headed to Sheltown and Banks Young hit FA, there was a massive hole at SS. Jones will just sit in that spot until we figure some things out and hope he plays good defense and comes up with the occasional nice offensive performance. Definitely a weakness though.

Nick Perez-2B-The Captain of the team he has had huge numbers in AAA and finally will get a chance at holding down 2B as a starter. He isn't a star and not sure he will be our 2B going forward but he will get a crack at it. Another weakness on the squad though on paper.

Pitching Staff:
The staff has been one of Boston's strong points on this mini run and they bring everyone back to give it another go this year. We are reaching some crucial decisions on long term views of the rotation and have 3 guys on the block that can really help a stronger contender then us but we will put them out there until traded. Prediction: Top 5 in most pitching categories

Eric Long-SP-The anchor of the staff, Long has put in back to back dominant seasons as the #1 and he will take the ball this year in that spot again. He is an innings eater that just takes over games when its his turn in the rotation with 39 wins the last 2 years and 230+IP. True ace.

Ken Howard-SP-Howard has blossomed into a true #2 guy that we had hoped for when he came to Boston. He finally got a good defense behind him, some offensive support and he has flourished. He is currently on the block as Boston is fielding offers for the young arm and in limbo on whether to resign him or get younger. I have a feeling in a walk year he is going to put up big numbers.

Jason Guzman-SP-Guzman would be a #1/2 on most teams and still has that makeup as an iron man arm in the rotation. He is a consistent winner who can dominate in any game he is on the mound. Also on the block to see if Boston will get some financial flexibility but we are lucky to have him as a #3 on a talented rotation.

Masaaki Okuta-SP-One of the weirder fellas in the rotation he can go out and fan 15 guys or give up 4 HR. Either way his dominant stuff and wide array of pitches helps him perform very well as a #4 in this rotation. He would be higher in most other staffs but he has some competition ahead of him. He is on the block as well and think he will show his true stuff in a walk year possibly getting back to 2063 form.

Rob Garland-SP-Probably the least known arm in the rotation but expectations are rising for the 27yo. He had a fantastic year last year in getting his first full time go of it in the rotation and he did not disappoint. The crafty lefty has fantastic control and keeps the ball down in getting 13 wins last year and we expect more this year. Fantastic #5 guy.

Jose Rivera-Big armed closer that has taken over that spot and one of the best in the league
Jesus Salcido-Nice acquisition from Nashville that just goes out there and gets the job done as a setup
Trent Ware-A sneaky addition from the Kline trade in Cincy and he has performed studly in Boston
Ricardo Herrera- Hasn't been as dominant as we had hoped since coming from SEA but maybe this year
Leonardo Perez-$1 deal from Sheltown that we are hoping can get back to his 2064 self
Chris Watkins-Should be starting somewhere but with our stacked rotation he's a nice arm in relief

Boston is teetering on a mini rebuild or making another big run the next couple years. If we don't move the guys on our block soon I can see us making the playoffs again and hoping for another deep run. If some guys are moved, it will be a 2 season retool to get younger and add depth to the farm.

The combination of a stacked lineup and very deep rotation should have us right there again and battling Miami for the division but a lot of "ifs" loom over the team this year.

Prediction: 91-71, wild card berth

91-71? Get out of here. You'll win more than that.

I really like the makeup of this team. Great lineup, no real weakness I the rotation and a strong bullpen. I think this gets closer to 100 wins this season

I did that prediction mostly based on possible moves and lack of solid players at the SS/2B position up the middle.

I get it. Still, at the moment, a solid Top 3 team in the AL. Probably a Top 2 team. {ducks as nick see's this}
